Boeing 737 diverted to ABQ after engine is shut down on Las Vegas-to-Kansas City flight.
10:05am UPDATE: The 55 passengers and crew on Southwest Airlines Flight 372 diverted to Albuquerque this morning were never in danger, Southwestern Airlines spokeswoman Brandy King said by telephone from Dallas. The plane was on a Las Vegas, Nev., to Kansas City flight (not from Phoenix, as we were told earlier) when a light went on indicating a possible malfunction -- somewhat akin to the check-engline light on your car's dashboard, King told us. One engine was shut down according to airline safety protocols, and the captain requested a diversion to Albuquerque around 9:20 a.m., as a precautionary measure, King told ABQjournal.com. A maintenance crew on the ground checked the engine and found it to be OK, and the plane resumed its flight to Kansas City, King said. A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 that was diverted to the Albuquerque International Sunport this morning after losing power in one of its two engines on a flight from Phoenix to Kansas City landed safely at 9:20 a.m., Sunport spokesman Daniel Jiron tells ABQjournal.com. Initial reports say there were 54 passengers on board as well as the flight crew and all were reported OK, Jiron said. Kirtland Air Force Base fire crews were on hand as the plane landed and found no problems before escorting the plane to a gate where the plane was checked out again by the Albuquerque Fire Department, Jiron said. Repairs on the engine were likely to take some time, said Jiron, who said he believed the passengers would be re-routed to other flights. 9:15am -- Emergency Landing at Sunport: A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 with one engine out being diverted to ABQ.
A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737, originally bound for Kansas City, is being diverted to the Albuquerque International Sunport with one engine out, and should be landing within the next 30 minutes or so, airport spokesman Daniel Jiron tells ABQjournal.com.
