National Weather Service Doppler radar has just picked up a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Glencoe, about 10 miles east of Ruidoso.

A tornado warning is in effect until 2 p.m., with the storm moving at about 25 mph from Glencoe to San Patricio around 1:35 p.m. and Hondo and Lincoln around 1:40 p.m.

This is a dangerous storm. You should leave automobiles and mobile homes. Move into an interior room or hallway on the lowest floor. Stay away from windows and outside walls.

Counties under the watch include Chaves, Colfax, Curry, De Baca, Eddy, Guadalupe, Harding, Lea, Lincoln, Mora, Otero, Quay, Roosevelt, San Miguel, Torrance and Union.

Meanwhile, a fire weather watch will be in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening for the Sandia and Manzano mountains onto the east central plains.

A strong upper level low pressure system will cross into the region on Tuesday strengthening winds over parts of east central New Mexico, as today's low-level moisture dissipates into Texas leaving behind low humidities and critical fire weather conditions, the weather service said.
