No Tornado in Albuquerque Permalink comment E-mail

We've had an anecdotal report of a tornado touching down on Albuquerque's west side, but the National Weather Service says "no." We did have some pretty dramatic straight-line winds blowing through, accompanying the dramatic thunderstorm an hour ago, according to Jonathan Souk at the Weather Service. Two thunderstorms merged, and spotters did record a brief - 5 second - funnel cloud as a result, but the folks who were giving the storm a close look on radar say it was not a tornado.

Three hundredths of an inch of rain fell at San Antonio and Louisiana in Albuquerque's NE Heights.

And yes, that was snow you saw on the Sandias when they emerged earlier today from the clouds. The Weather Service says we can expect a "wintry mix" (I love their language) above 7,500 feet, with snow above 9,000 feet, for the rest of the day.
