Deming man says he managed to escape before being taken to Mexico and killed.
Luna County sheriff's deputies arrested three people Sunday and said more arrests could be forthcoming in the alleged kidnapping of 31-year-old Michael Pedrosa of Deming, the Deming Headlight reported. Pedrosa told deputies he managed to escape early Sunday after being bound with rope and duct tape on Saturday and told he would be taken to Palomas, Mexico, to be beaten and killed, sheriff's Capt. Arturo Baeza told the Headlight. Being held on kidnapping and conspiracy charges were Andres Valenzuela, 51; Brandi Saenz, 32; and Maria Fierro, 32, and Valenzuela faces additional charges of battery and aggravated assault, the paper reported. Pedrosa told deputies he had been approached by Saenz on the pretext of looking at a car she had for sale and was jumped by three men who bound him and loaded him in a Pontiac Grand Am and drove him to Valenzuela's mobile home, the Headlight said. When the men left the trailer, Pedrosa said he was able to escape his bonds and run from the home to a nearby residence where he banged on the door and called for help, according to the paper. As his captors rushed him, the next-door homeowner told his wife to call 911 and fired two shots into the ceiling, scaring the three captors away, deputies told the Headlight. Pedrosa was treated at Mimbres Memorial Hospital and released, and three of the suspects were arrested separately later Sunday, said Baeza, who would not give the names of others being sought in the incident.
