Investigators initially called death suspicious because of multiple bruises found on body.

It turns out that the death of a 71-year-old Raton man was from natural causes -- and wasn't a suspicious death as police originally thought because of  multiple bruises found when his body was discovered in March, the Raton Range reported.

Theodore Ulibarri died of two different forms of cardiovascular disease, according to an autopsy report released earlier this month by the state Office of the Medical Investigator.

The OMI also determined that the bruises, abrasions and a laceration found on Ulibarri's body -- which led investigators to believe he may have died from blunt-force trauma -- were consistent with injuries received during previous falls, the Range reported.

The report said Ulibarri had visited a health clinic in the days before his death and had reported increasing instability due to dizziness, leading to several falls, the paper reported.

Ulibarri was found dead in his apartment in Raton's El Portal Hotel on the morning of March 19 after police conducted a welfare check, according to the Range.

Police initially listed his death as a homicide because of the condition of his body, and had even sought to question four persons of interest in the case based on evidence found in Ulibarri's apartment, the paper reported.
