Fire starts in area slated for prescribed burn this fall The Espanola Ranger District is  monitoring the lightning caused Peak Fire which is burning north, north east of Clara Peak.

Officials say the fire was detected Tuesday afternoon and is currently spreading slowly.

The fire is burning near an area that burned in 1998 and near an area that will be treated with a prescribed fire this fall.

Smoke from the fire is visible from Espanola, Abiquiu, and  surrounding communities.
