Nob Hill will be the site of a City Hall experiment this weekend. Central Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic between Girard and Washington on Sunday. The goal is to make the area more pedestrian-friendly. Mayor Martin Chavez said street performers, farmers with produce and others are invited to liven up the streets. Live music is planned, too. I think the idea is to replicate some of the success of the annual "Shop and Stroll" events held each December. The Sunday event is from 1 to 7 p.m., and the city will try it again Aug. 24.
