Valencia County woman had been on paid leave from ABQ City Attorney's Office.
Yvette Tapia, the Valencia County woman who was caught on a home video last month as she choked, kicked and tossed a newly adopted puppy, has been fired from her job as an assistant in the Albuquerque City Attorney's Office, KOB-TV is reporting. The disturbing video was first shown on Eyewitness News 4 in mid-July, and since that time the puppy, named Buddy, was taken into custody by Valencia County animal control officers and Tapia was put on paid administrative leave from her Albuquerque city job, the station earlier reported. City officials told KOB-TV that since the City Attorney's Office handles many cases of animal abuse, it looks bad to have an employee in the department who has been charged with the crime. Tapia was charged with misdemeanor animal abuse in Valencia County and faces a court appearance there later this month, KOB-TV has reported. More than 100 people have contacted the Valencia County animal shelter asking to adopt Buddy, the station reported.
