Embattled Bernalillo County Republican Party Chairman Fernando C de Baca has resigned, the Journal has learned.

Republican sources said C de Baca stepped down during a Thursday morning meeting.

The move came the same morning that prominent New Mexico black-community leaders gathered to denounce C de Baca's recent racially charged comments and demand his immediate resignation.

For complete details, see tomorrow's Journal.
