Registered Republican protests use of Obama logo imposed on state symbol.
Shauna Wade, a Portales woman who is a registered Republican but says she doesn't support either John McCain or Barack Obama for president, sure doesn't like the altered Zia symbol she saw at Obama's Roosevelt County field office this week, the Portales News-Tribune reported. The sign on the front door of the field office showed the New Mexico Zia symbol with Obama's official campaign logo superimposed in the middle, the News-Tribune reported. "I think it's a disgrace to our state, to be honest with you," Wade told the News-Tribune. "That's not right ... If you do something like that, it makes it look like the whole state of New Mexico is for Obama. And it's not." The offending sign was taken down from the office door late Thursday, but campaign volunteers continued to wear T-shirts emblazoned with the same image, the News-Tribune said. Obama New Mexico spokesman Carlos Sanchez told the paper that the creation is not an official campaign image. "(That) sign was made by our volunteers," Sanchez told the News Tribune. "They are all excited about Senator Obama, they're all excited about having change in New Mexico and they express that excitement by making signs." Sanchez said the campaign volunteers are from New Mexico, adding, "They're proud about being from here, and that symbol is synonymous with New Mexico."
