All online park-and-ride tickets can be purchased for $10 up until an hour before Sunday's Balloon Fiesta events, organizers say. The midnight deadline does not apply tonight. That'll also cover the cost of the fiesta admission. Go to balloonfiesta.com to buy your park-and-ride tickets.
Blame the blustery, wet weather. All evening events at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta have been canceled event officials have announced. Those events include the Night Magic Glow scheduled for 5:45 p.m. and the AfterGlow Fireworks show set for 8 p.m. "Due to weather conditions, all events for this evening have been cancelled and the launch field is closed," the fiesta said in a statement. "However, weather officials are optimistic about tomorrow. The current conditions should move through overnight, and the events scheduled for tomorrow morning are still expected to happen."
The chainsaw carvers auction scheduled for 6-7 p.m. this evening will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday instead, said Kathie Leyendecker, Balloon Fiesta spokeswoman.
Today's 7 a.m. mass ascension at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta has been canceled, fiesta officials just told the Journal. "All morning flying events are canceled -- the winds aloft are quite brisk," said Kathie Leyendecker, spokeswoman for the event. "But we still have wood carving going on at the north side of the field and the vendors are open..." Some hot-air balloons could be inflated and tethered to the launch field, but that too won't happen unless the winds subside, she said. Event officials should know for certain sometime between 5 and 6 p.m. whether tonight's Night Magic Glow will go on as planned. An AfterGlow Fireworks show also is scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight.
