30-year-old Waterflow man tells police he was trying to teach 4-year-old about 'the birds and the bees.'

Raphaelbert Randall, 30, of Waterflow, has been charged with molesting a 4-year-old family member after telling police the alleged abuse occurred as he was trying to teach the little girl about "the birds and the bees," the Farmington Daily Times reported over the weekend.

The 4-year-old reported the incident on Sept. 12 after family members returned home to find Randall watching the child behind a locked door, the Daily Times said.

Randall initially denied the allegation but later told police that his DNA might be found on the child, the paper reported.

"I understand that DNA samples were taken and given, but I, at this point, haven't been provided with any resultts, so I don't know if there will be any (DNA evidence) or not," Randall's attorney Brad Dalley told the Daily Times.

Randall allegedly told police that he had tried to teach the child, who had asked where children came from, about sex, but said he "didn't force himself on her," according to arrest documents.

Randall, who is charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual penetration of a child, waived a preliminary hearing on the charges last Thursday, the Daily Times said.

He is being held at the San Juan County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond, the paper reported.
