New Jersey man remains in critical condition

A North Brunswick man who was injured Friday in a hot air balloon crash in Albuquerque remains in critical condition, but a friend said the man has been stabilized and is responsive, according to the web site mycentraljersey.com.

Keith Sproul, 49, fell 65 feet after a balloon, Wings of Wind, crashed into a set of power lines and burst into flames. Killed in the crash was Stephen Lachendro, of Butler, Penn.

Sproul was subsequently left in a medically induced coma at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque after undergoing surgery. He has since been taken out of the coma and is showing signs of improvement, said Howard Freeman, executive producer of the Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning in Hunterdon County.
