Officials hope turning down the heat will save money

You might want to send an extra layer of clothing to school with your kids as it's likely to be cooler in their classrooms.

As reported in July, APS will be turning down the thermostats in an effort to save on heating bills.

From January to July, the price of natural gas on the San Juan Index, from which APS buys its supplies, the price went from $6.38/decatherm to $11.36/decatherm. That's a 78 percent jump in the span of six months.

A decatherm is enough to heat a house between 2,800 and 3,000 square feet for one day. The Journal's previous story is here.
