Police say 35-year-old used pellet gun to steal beer and cigarettes from convenience store.
Cindy Mendoza, 35, of Clovis, is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on a $27,000 bond, charged with robbery and criminal damage to property following a Tuesday night incident in which she allegedly stole beer and cigarettes using a pellet gun, the Clovis News Journal reported. Police said a woman approached a male clerk at an Allsup's store around 10 p.m. Tuesday bringing a 12-pack of beer to the counter and asked for a pack of cigarettes, the News Journal said. The woman allegedly asked the clerk if he had ever experienced a "beer run" before, and when he said no, she told him to "consider this his first run," police said. Then she backed out of the store carrying the beer and cigarettes, and when the clerk moved toward the back, she allegedly pulled out what appeared to be a gun, the News Journal reported. When she left, the clerk discovered the store phone didn't work, and it was later found that the outside phone line had been cut, the paper said. Police located Mendoza several hours later, and shoe prints matching hers were found near the cut phone lines and police located the pellet gun and clothes the suspect had been wearing in a nearby vehicle, the News Journal said.
