The head of the Republican Women of Otero County who refused to resign after calling then-Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama a "Muslim socialist" was the most read non-Newsseeker story of 2008.

The second most read of the year was the fatal hot-air baloon crash during the annual Balloon Fiesta in October.

Also making the top ten were Pete Domenici, Manny Aragon, Eclipse Aviation and UFOs in Roswell.

Top 100 news stories

The saga of Diana Willis, the Oregon woman whose son wandered off to die near Encino, was the most read Newsseeker story of 2008, followed by the search for Nick Garza, n Albuquerque man who went missing in Vermont.

Others include Gov. Richardson's beard, the La Cueva High School lockdown and the Trigo Fire.
