Hospital work progresses

Journal Staff Report
RIO RANCHO — Although cranes have been visible since Thanksgiving week, most of the construction on Presbyterian Healthcare Services' new $165 million Rio Rancho hospital has been below ground level.
Work has been under way on the basement of the 400,000-square-foot facility. About 580 tons of rebar have been laid and 1,800 cubic yards of cement have been poured since the start of construction.
Presbyterian spokeswoman Elizabeth Brophy said, in a release, that construction work will soon be visible above ground.
The hospital site is northeast of the intersection of Unser and Black Arroyo, just north of the border of West Side Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.
Presbyterian has said it expects the 66-bed hospital to be completed in 2011. It will consist of a five-story patient tower housing medical, surgical, intensive care, neonatal intensive care and obstetric units.
An adjoining two-story tower will contain surgical suites, an emergency department and areas for imaging.
