One Day Turnaround: 200 New Jobs

One door closes, another one opens.
Hundreds of call center employees who just learned about the demise of their company in Albuquerque in the coming months are learning that one area business is looking to fill 200 new similar slots.
Just days after the Convergys Corp. call center on Jefferson NE announced it would have to cut almost 700 jobs and close in June, Sprint announced Thursday it will be hiring almost 200 for positions at its Rio Rancho Sprint Contact Center.
"The jobs are an economic boom for the city during a time when other companies have been downsizing," Spring said in a news release annoucing the hiring.
The company will be holding an on-site hiring event today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4300 Sprint Blvd. in Rio Rancho.
The company will also be at the Gobs of Jobs Career Fair on Tuesday the Marriott Pyramid from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sprint said it offers competitive salaries and benefits — including medical, dental, 401(k), performance bonuses, use of an on-site fitness center and participation in Sprint's wireless phone program, according to the release.
The open positions require a minimum of one to two years of customer service experience, strong Windows computer skills and the ability to nights, weekends and holidays, according to an online job description.
Sprint said it offers paid training and a base pay scale of $11.06 to $13 an hour.
