Annapurna Owner Donates to Accion
Yashoda Naidoo, owner of Annapurna's World Vegetarian Café and a client of Accion New Mexico-Arizona-Colorado is donating $15,000 toward completion of Accion's new regional headquarters in Albuquerque.
In recognition of this gift, Accion said it will name the break room in the new building after Naidoo's Annapurna's World Vegetarian Café.
"ACCION believed in me when no one else did," Naidoo said in a statement.
In 2002, Naidoo arrived at Accion with a mission statement written on a napkin and a deep passion for Ayurvedic cooking.
With some refinement to her business plan, Accion provided Naidoo with a loan for $20,000 to help her open her first restaurant.
Her restaurant did so well that Naidoo had to move to a larger location after only 18 months in business.
Today, Naidoo owns and operates three restaurants in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, financing the growth from the success of her business.
PRC Vote Confirms Insurance Super
By a 4-1 vote, the Public Regulation Commission on Tuesday named insurance industry veteran John Franchini as state insurance superintendent.
Franchini, one of five finalists, will report to work the week of Aug. 16, PRC spokesman Gerald Garner said.
His annual salary will be $100,000.
Commissioner Jason Marks cast the no vote, Garner said.
Marks proposed a substitute motion to appoint attorney Pete Dinelli, another finalist, after Jerome Block moved for Franchini's appointment. Marks' motion died for lack of a second, Garner said.
The PRC's Insurance Division has not had a permanent superintendent since Morris Chavez resigned May 4 in the wake of his controversial order approving a settlement that provided for an average 21 percent increase in premiums for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico's individual health insurance products.
