Journal Staff Report
The N.M. Tourism Department has won national 2009 Communicator Awards for its desktop event calendar and the department's major promotional piece coinciding with its award-winning float in the 2009 Tournament of Roses Parade.
The calendar, which has a photo on one side of each monthly card and a list of that month's major events on the flip side, earned an Award of Distinction, the highest honor, given to entries whose ability to communicate puts them among the best in the field.
The float promotional piece, "Hello, New Mexico," earned an Award of Excellence, presented for projects that exceed industry standards in quality and achievement.
"These honors are in recognition of the efforts of the Tourism Department staff to create exciting and unique products that have proven successful in reaching new audiences," said Michael Cerletti, secretary of the Tourism Department.
The announcement was made last month in New York by the International Academy of the Visual Arts. The Communicator Awards drew more than 9,000 entries from the around the world.
