      PNM Interested In Superstation Role
PNM said Thursday it has potential interest in building transmission lines for the proposed Tres Amigas Superstation project that would allow energy to flow more freely across the country's three giant power grids.
The superstation, which would be built in Clovis by Santa Fe-based Tres Amigas, would connect the nation's east, west and Texas interconnections, helping route energy from isolated wind and solar installations to urban centers.
PNM informed Tres Amigas of its interest in the project in a letter.
“We believe this is an innovative concept and may create opportunities for economic development in the state of New Mexico and surrounding states,” PNM President Pat Vincent-Collawn said in a news release. “It also has potential for direct benefits to our customers by making cost-effective new sources of energy available.”
The first phase of the project would cost an estimated $600 million. Financing has not been secured.

       Aspen Avionics Outfits Copter
A Bell helicopter used by an Alabama sheriff's department is the first to be equipped with an electronic flight display system developed by Albuquerque-based Aspen Avionics.
The company this week said the Dale County Sheriff's Office in Ozark, Ala., has installed the company's EFD1000H Pro primary flight display and EFD1000H multi-function display in its Bell OH-58, the first installation in an operational helicopter.
Aspen introduced its Evolution Flight Display System in 2007 as an affordable version of the larger avionics commonly found in commercial aircraft, larger business jets and higher-end aircraft, and uses the same technology in the helicopter products.
The primary display system provides information such speed, altitude and attitude while the multi-function display adds features such as moving maps, hazard sensors and additional navigational information.
