Adrienne Basciano was afraid. She had been telling co-workers at Albuquerque's Emcore solar and fiber optics company that she feared her former live-in boyfriend, Robert Reza, would try to harm her. Shortly before 9:30 Monday morning, Basciano's fears erupted in gunfire and ended in a bloody crime scene at Emcore, with three people dead and four wounded. Reza shot two people outside the Emcore building, killing one of them, Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz said. Armed with a semiautomatic handgun, Reza then forced his way inside the building and shot four more people before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.

Hardly anyone called Michele Turner by her real first name. It was always "Scrappy," the nickname she went by even before her first practice with the New Mexico Burn, a professional women's football team that played for three seasons between 2005 and 2007. Turner was named Most Valuable Player in the team's inaugural season.
