N.M. Gasoline Most Expensive in Southwest

Associated Press
New Mexico, on a statewide average, has the most expensive gasoline in the Southwest, according to a recent report by the Citizens' Alliance for Responsible Energy.
The number of small towns in New Mexico and their more expensive gas stations hike up the average price of fuel, the report said.
"If you truck a tanker 200 miles to a gas station in a small town, that's an extra 10 cents a gallon for gas,'' said Mark Mathis, executive director of the nonprofit group.
As of early Saturday, the price per gallon of gasoline in New Mexico was $2.68 — four cents higher than in Texas, and 35 cents higher than in Utah.
New Mexico has a booming oil and gas industry, but Mathis said that doesn't mean the gasoline is cheaper. New Mexico imports 7,000 barrels of oil a day, but the state doesn't have a pipeline infrastructure as thorough as some neighboring states, he said.
