TEDx, the community-based conference inspired by the national and global TED conferences (Technology/Entertainment/Design), is coming to Tamaya next Sunday, November 22nd. Founded by Richard Saul Wurman in 1984, TED events bring in nationally and internationally renowned speakers to cities all over the world to discuss the ways in which current technology, entertainment, and design initiatives are shaping our future, as well as the ways in which those working in such fields can utilize their mediums for positive change. Notable TED speakers have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, James Nachtwey, and others. TEDx events are newer, more intimate, locally-organized events established to inspire practical applications of creative and technological pursuits within individual communities through live speakers and discussion. Saturday's conference, to be held at the Hyatt Regency, will include speakers such as photographer Brian Adams, Hon. George Martinez from the Global Block Foundation, TED fellow and social activist Naomi Natale, internationally-recognized designer Gong Szetzo, and others. New Mexico Solar Energy Association presents a talk by Jim D. Palmer: "Solar Heated Swimming Pools for the City of Albuquerque - An Update" Jim D. Palmer, PE, CEM, GBE, LEED-AP, president of NRG Engineering will provide an update on system types, sizes, dates, BTUs saved and dollars saved on gas bills for the City of Albuquerque by using solar heating for the swimming pools. Jim Palmer was involved in this project from the conceptual through the construction stages. Jim will describe these solar thermal installations (some including Albuquerque public schools) and report on their effectiveness.
