Clarifying Meditative Work - A Fresh Look
Wat, 145 Madison NE, AlbuquerqueA workshop, Clarifying Meditative Work A Fresh Look, will be held on Saturday, 2/11, 2 to 5 pm at the Wat Center, at 145 Madison NE, corner of Madison and Copper, east of Washington in Albuquerque. It is also ok to leave at 3:45. $2 donation.
The workshop will bring together people interested in meditation from any tradition - including Tibetan, Zen, Vipassana, Hindu and Western as well as people meditating without any traditional context. The spirit of the day should appeal to people who like the writings of Eckhart Tolle, Pema Chodron, Toni Packer, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Krishnamurti, among others.
Both experienced sitters and those newly interested in meditation will have a chance to explore directly what meditative work is and how it sheds light on the concerns of our lives.
The workshop will not focus on the learning of either techniques or spiritual theory, although it will be fine if these topics come up for discussion. Instead participants can bring up issues and concerns in their lives or issues from or about their meditation. The group will explore the possibility of shedding fresh light on these issues, not theoretically, but from a quiet, meditative listening to each other and to oneself.
The day will include quiet sitting, group discussion, a short talk and some time to visit with each other. The facilitator is Jay Cutts, who has attended retreats with Toni Packer for over 35 years. Jay meets from time to time with people from diverse backgrounds to clarify meditative work together.
Jay says, Meditative work is, in its deepest sense, not theoretical, not goal oriented, not a matter of time or progress. It is the direct opening, fully complete in this moment now, to a simple, compassionate, open awareness that allows the myriad fears, clingings, confusions of the mind that we all suffer from to be revealed in a new way and at the same time brings us intimately, undividedly and lovingly in touch with the wide universe in all its profound stillness. I feel that, in our deepest hearts, it is the possibility of this openness that we come together to clarify.
For reservations or more info, or to be on the mailing list for future workshops, please call Jay at 281-0684. Additional workshops on 3/17 and 4/21. . There is a seven day silent retreat the first week of December, which is conducted in the same tradition-neutral way, on 10 quiet acres in Tijeras.

Selected works will be on view in the Van Deren Coke Gallery including the Dioramas, photographed in exquisite life-like detail at natural history and other museums; Seascapes, timeless vistas of air and water photographed at oceans from around the world; Theatres, for which he set the exposure time of his camera to the entire length of the film that was being shown; Lightning Fields, produced in the studio from experiments with electricity; and, Mechanical Forms, exquisitely detailed 19th century tools, the choice of which was highly influenced by the artists interest in Marcel Duchamps The Large Glass (1915-1923). An Inquisitive Eye, Seeing Into Prints
Center of Art Building #62, 1 University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131An Inquisitive Eye provides visitors an occasion to view significant prints and printed books from the museums permanent collection which numbers over ten thousand, and spans the history of printmaking from 1493 to the present. Prints possess a multi-valent natureboth the subject and technique embodied in an image must be considered on equal footing, one not privileged over the other. The idea expressed on paper depends upon the printers abilities and particular materials to realize successfully the artists vision. Woodcuts from the Weltchronik (World Chronicle), Albrecht Drer and Wassily Kandinsky, etchings by Rembrandt van Rijn, Man Ray and William Kentridge, lithographs by Honor Daumier, George Grosz, and Robert Motherwell and screenprints by Andy Warhol, Agnes Martin and Matthew Barney illustrate the extent of the exhibition and the breadth of the museums collection which continues to serve as an important research and teaching resource for the university and the community at-large.

Organized by museum director, E.

Why Elevator Pitches Fail Miserably and How Yours Can be a Smashing Success
Embassy Suites Hotel (Intersection of Lomas and I-25)NAWBO is pleased to have Dave Meurer, CEO of Armed Response Team, as its guest speaker this month.
In this era of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media websites, are we still doing in-person networking? Dave Meurer will share his insights on why he believes face-to-face networking is still one of the best ways to make a positive first impression and how that can help you build your business. Everyone knows they should have an elevator pitch, but the problem is most elevator pitches sound alike so they dont create the powerful first impression that helps us be remembered. Just like any effective marketing or sales piece, like a brochure or website, an elevator pitch needs to be well-prepared and rehearsed to get great results. Dave Meurer will give you examples of what does and does not work. Hell also share two do-it-yourself templates you can use to craft and perfect your own blockbuster elevator pitch.
Dinner Meeting/Program: $32.00 for members; $37.00 for non-members and guests. Please visit our website for more information and to register:

The Drowsy Chaperone
The Adobe TheaterThe Drowsy Chaperone
by Bob Martin & Don McKellar; music & lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison.
February 17 - March 11, 2012
The Drowsy Chaperone, a comic "musical within a play," is an homage to American musicals of the jazz age. It won 8 Tony Awards in 2006 including best book. The Man In The Chair, a mousy agoraphobic Broadway fanatic seeking to cure his "non specific sadness", listens to a recording of a fictional 1929 musical comedy, "The Drowsy Chaperone". As he listens to this rare recording, he is transported into the musical. The characters appear in his dingy apartment, and it is transformed into a Broadway set. From time to time the Man in the Chair tries to insert his extensive but trivial knowledge of musical performances and actors. This is a fall off your chair funny musical farce.

Cathy Faber is pleased to announce the release of her Swingin' Country Band's first CD, Lights of Santa Fe. The release party and dance will take place at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19th at Santa Fe Sol Stage & Grill (formerly the Santa Fe Brewing Company Pub & Grill).
Lights of Santa Fe features band members Britt Alexander on drums and cymbals, George Langston on guitars and harmony vocals, Aug Hays on pedal steel, dobro, and lead vocals on two songs, and recording engineer Jono Manson on harmony vocals. Cathy Faber plays upright bass and sings lead on all but Augs two numbers on this 15 song CD. The title song was written by former Santa Fean, singer-songwriter Eliza Gilkyson.
This project is all about the band, not just me, Cathy said. I didnt hire guest players, as I want folks to listen to something representative of one of our live performances. The CD consists, in large part, of covers of lesser-known songs.
Cathy Faber's Swingin' Country Band, formed in May 2010, has become a favorite of the two-step dancers in Northern New Mexico.
If you're a lover of Western Swing and classic country, sung by one of the finest female vocalists anywhere, then Cathy Faber's Swingin' Country Band is a sure bet to keep you dancin' your boots off and royally entertained." - Santa Fe Music icon Bill Hearne

Alfonso Fratteggiani Bianchi: Triptycon
554 So. Guadalupe, Santa Fe, NMAn exhibition of new work, Triptycon by Alfonso Fratteggiani Bianchi will open at Charlotte Jackson Fine Art on February 24 and extend through March 24. An Opening Reception with the artist will be held on Friday, February 24 from 5-7 p.m.
Fratteggiani Bianchi uses pure powdered pigments which he hunts for during his travels around the world. He applies this pure color directly onto cut pietra serena limestone without the use of any medium: No glue, no acrylic, no oil. Fratteggiani Bianchi uses only the palm and side of his hand to press and pack the powder into the porous limestone which is native to his Umbria region in Italy. Unhindered by the usual binders, the pigment is allowed to remain unfixed and alive, and therefore to breathe and radiate its full force of color. As Fratteggiani Bianchi says, color is matter. The brilliance of color within these paintings is capable of piercing straight through the eye into the heart and mind. It awakens, it opens. But more than that, it is solid.
With Triptycon Fratteggiani Bianchi adds another dimension by creating three-panel pieces, triptychs of stone and stunning color. These triptychs are carefully planned to explore relationships between the characteristics of the pigments, stone, and formats.

Agnes Martin: Before the Grid
Harwood Museum of ArtThe year 2012 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Agnes Martin (born on March 22, 1912). To commemorate this occasion, and to celebrate Martins significant connection to Taos and to the Harwood Museum of Art, the museum will present an exhibition of a little known body of Martins paintings dating from the late 1940s and 1950s. Agnes Martin: Before the Grid will trace the entire span of Martins early work, beginning with early portraits, a still life, and landscapes. The direction towards abstraction will be evident in several biomorphic works and early geometric paintings. If sufficient funding is secured, the museum will host a symposium on March 23 and 24. This exhibition is an Official Project of the New Mexico Centennial.
