3:15pm — Crash Victim Identified

Rear-end collision on I-25 claims Albuquerque man.

The driver of the car that was struck from behind on northbound Interstate 25 near Bernalillo shortly after 3 a.m Friday has been identified as Nemasio Lusson, 55, of Albuquerque.

Lusson died at the scene, while the driver of the car that struck Lusson’s — Pete Panana, 27, of Rio Rancho — was treated at an Albuquerque hospital for minor injuries and released.

State Police Lt. Jimmy Glascock said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, but that no charges have been filed and an investigation is continuing.

Northbound Interstate 25 reopened around 6:45 a.m. after State Police wrapped up their investigation at the scene of a two-car crash that occurred around 3:15 a.m. Both cars were traveling north near mile marker 241 when one car rear-ended the other, said State Police Lt. Jimmy Glascock. Both cars went onto the shoulder and the driver of the first car was pronounced dead at the scene, said Glascock. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The driver of the second car, who Glascock identified as 27-year-old Pete Panana of Rio Rancho, was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital where he was treated  for minor injuries and released.
"We’ll be investigating the possibility that alcohol will be a factor," said Glascock. Panana was reportedly being questioned by police.
