4:45pm Tues. — Domenici’s Mental Health Parity Push Returns

I just got word that Sens. Pete Domenici, Edward M. Kennedy and Mike Enzi will almost certainly announce a new legislative package soon that aims to give people who suffer from mental illness the same insurance benefits as those who suffer from cancer, heart disease and other physical ailments.

The package was expected to be announced Wednesday, but has been delayed. 

Domenici, whose grown daughter suffers from schizophrenia, has been working on this issue for years but has always come up short – in large part because the powerful insurance lobby has opposed his initiative.

Domenici's office says this time, everyone is on board, including the insurers.
