Home is Where the PS3 Is

Sony today announced the coming release of PlayStation Home, a virtual world that combines elements of Xbox Live and the Nintendo Wii.

The online community will allow PlayStation 3 owners to create avatars, much like the Mii on the Wii and interact with other online players to earn achievements, a popular part of Xbox Live.

But Sony hopes to make Home a tighter-knit community:

Each user is assigned an apartment in Home where they can invite others to join them as they show off their own style in an area they can personalize themselves with furniture, art and other items – even a different view from their windows.

Expect Home to debut this Fall.
