More than 40 percent of the $200 appliance rebates being offered by the state through a federal stimulus program have been snatched up in the program’s first day, based on the number of applications downloaded.
Gov. Bill Richardson’s office just announced that 3,461 applications for clothes washers, refrigerators and furnaces have been downloaded since the state program officially began at 6 a.m. this morning.
The state has a total of more than 8,300 rebates available for models of those three types of appliances that meet federal energy-efficiency guidelines.
The money is availabe on a first-come, first-serve basis based on when completed applications are received.
