Mayor Richard Berry and the Downtown Action Team celebrated the opening of a new “pocket” park near Second and Gold SW.
They said it’s the first new park in Downtown Albuquerque in more than 100 years. The small park occupies a narrow strip of land between the National Institute of Flamenco and a parking lot.
It features plants, benches and wide open space. The park will offer wifi Internet access in a few weeks.
It’s called Frances Tinnin Park. The land was donated by the Tinnin family, and local businesses pitched in with materials.
Students from Gordon Bernell Charter School, which serves jail inmates, helped design and build the park.
