Magazine says Gov. Richardson Lobbied “Fiercely” for North Korea Assignment

Foreign Policy magazine, in a piece that just hit the internet, says New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson lobbied “fiercely” to get an assignment to free an American who has been imprisoned there
since January. Instead, former President Jimmy Carter got the nod.

The governor, who has a long history of high profile negotiations with North Korea, is currently in Cuba on a trade mission. I have no immediate response from Richardson’s office. His office didn’t return Foreign Policy’s phone calls on the subject.
