  • DESCRIPTION: Hey! welcome we are 15 Polk St. We are here to tell you our bio but first, here are some of our most frequently asked questions … How were we created? We decided that Xbox in our grandma’s basement wasn’t fun anymore. How did the name come about? Ask Ronald Reagan. Who do we sound like? Well if Barry White and Barbara Streisand had a baby … We would sound nothing like that. Why is there as black guy in the group? He got tired of Polka. Isn’t the guitarist too old for the group? Yes! But he’s too young to play Bar Mitzvahs. Is the drummer a emo? No we think he’s hispanic. So, being done with answering all of our FAQ’s we will now attempt to ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF!!! Please be patient as our page is currently under construction and we are working on new pictures, songs, videos, shows and of course we have a batch of cookies coming out of the oven soon. for booking please contact 15Polkst@gmail.com and leave us a message. And for all of our fans, don’t be afraid to drop us a comment, message or request anytime and we will try to respond back to you at our earliest convenience. Bailiwick

  • Contact: Mike Hays
  • Description: Have you ever heard the expression, “He’s in his bailiwick”? It comes from a Middle English word from the legal profession, indicating the bailiff’s corner of the courtroom. Nowadays, however, it refers more generally to a person’s area of interest and expertise. In Albuquerque, it refers to a local international folk music band.
Bailiwick performs Celtic music for the most part, from poignant airs to break-neck jigs and reels. Our diverse interests, however, have compelled us to explore a variety of genres, peppering our set lists with Argentine tangos, Arabic folk tunes, Venezuelan vals crusados, Mexican and Spanish waltzes, English country dance tunes, and now renaissance and medieval pieces. Bailiwick plays regularly at a number of bars, stores, dances and weddings in Albuquerque. Bailiwick’s musicians are Juli Palladino, Mike Hays, David Harper, and Marc and Susan McCamey.

Shelley Barratt

  • Web site: Web site
  • Description: Shelley’s adult contemporary world music is accompanied by guitar, random percussion or a cappella. Melodic vocals offer a rare level of intimacy to the listener, and the direction each song takes is unconventional yet accessible. It has been said that Shelley’s vocals have a calming effect. When Shelley sings, people stop what they are doing and listen to the original music: melodic and poetic, blending rhythms from around the world, inspiring harmony in living. Shelley plays rhythm guitars, using either an Ovation acoustic/electric or Samick Royale semi hollow-body, and a Djembe drum as well as classic percussion instruments.
Background info: Shelley was the lead in an Albuquerque rock band, Sub Culture, that released the independent album, “Seed Time”. They received radio play and reviews all over New Mexico and as far away as the Coasts. Sub Culture was courted by several major record labels, and several members went on to have successful recording careers of their own.

Birds Stealing Bread

  • Contact: Kristian Haynes
  • Web site
  • Description: Birds Stealing Bread is a four-piece group of young musicians local to the Albuquerque/East Mountain area and has been playing together since February ’08. Since then we have played about 20 shows all ranging from being the openers for screamo/metal and techno bands to headlining at coffee shop folk shows. Though we have usually played gentle acoustic music in the past, Birds Stealing Bread is now taking a more heavy and ambient tone with a large variety of instruments: Guitars, mandolin, drum set, bass, keyboards, kalimba, cello, djembe, and a plethora of smaller percussion instruments. A typical Birds Stealing Bread show is very involved, bringing in guest musicians and handing out percussion instruments, encouraging the stomping of feet, clapping of hands, and raising of voices while a canvas is laid out in the back for anybody who desires to paint on it. Birds Stealing Bread seeks to break down the barricade between performer and audience and build community and relationships between people through the beautiful medium of music.

  • Description: The type of music that Le Chat Lunatique plays is a combination of Gypsy Swing, Western Swing and anything else that we damn well please. Filthy Jazz is our forte! All of this madness came about due to John Sandlin and Muni Kulasinghe’s mutual love for the great Hot Club of France, a gypsy swing group from 1940′s Paris, which included the combined genius of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. Jared Putnam’s western swing background has fused istelf into the mix and given us a fine repertoire of classic western swing tunes. In the meantime Fernando Garavito’s latin background has seeped into the rhytmic pallet and given us a formidable groove.

Ciano Maés

  • Contact: Ciano Maés
  • Web site
  • Description: It’s been raining singer/songwriters lately, and Ciano Maés has splashed onto the scene with a fresh new flavor. The Albuquerque native is somewhat of a prodigy, having taught himself how to play piano by age 6, drums by the time he was 11, and guitar by 13. In high school, Ciano performed in several talent shows, which thrust him out from behind his drum kit into the spotlight as a singer songwriter. That taste of the limelight was enough to start Ciano on his way, and from there he began honing his writing and singing skills. After a brief stint on tour with a cover band, Ciano moved to LA to attend Musician’s Institute, and he began playing regular gigs on the club scene. There, he caught the attention of Hollywood producers, publishing companies and local radio. Ciano was asked to perform and record demos to be considered for soundtrack material and has had songs recorded and published by other recording artists. Wanting to focus on his songwriting and not the wants of industry moguls, Ciano moved back to New Mexico to build his studio and fine-tune the creative process. In the midst of all of this, Ciano has been scouted by several record companies but says, “I’m simply looking for the right situation. It needs to be about the integrity of the songs and delivering great music that has meaning to the listeners.Ciano is actively producing artists as well as writing songs for his forthcoming compact disc. Those close to the project are offering much praise (and record companies are taking notice). The highly anticipated release is set to be announced via the www.songkid.com Web site. Stay tuned…

  • Description: We were formed in January 1980 in the basement of the drummer’s house in DeKalb County, Georgia. We debuted on December 6, 1980 at the Christmas dance at Shamrock High School. In the summer of 1981, we recorded two songs (In the Name of Rock and Roll and Queen for a Day) at Monarch Studios in Alpharetta, Georgia and submitted them for consideration by a local radio station (96rock) for inclusion in its Home Cookin’ II LP. Out of over 1100 submissions, In the Name of Rock and Roll was one of the 12 songs selected for the album (released in the summer of 1982). In fall 1982, we recorded another eight songs at Monarch for inclusion on a demo. We disbanded the following year, but the 10 recordings were kept by our producer, Steve Starnes, and Monarch’s engineer, Larry Turner. Steve and Larry were able to successfully digitally transfer the surviving copies of these songs to CD in 2007, and after obtaining the necessary U.S. copyrights, we were able (finally) to distribute them under the Catapult Distribution label to digital download sites like iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, emusic, and Amazon on June 1, 2009, where they are currently available for sale to the public.

  • Description: The Noms is an acoustic pop band from Albuquerque, NM. Since their inception in the spring of 2009, the group has left audiences of all ages wide-eyed and grinning from feel-good, inventive songs and their comfortable and interactive stage presence. These innovators make a stimulating (and surprisingly balanced) sound from their unique mix of voice, guitar, piano, and diverse percussion, drawing on influences such as Paul Simon, Dave Matthews Band, Michelle Branch, John Frusciante, The Fray, Raul Midon, and even a cappella and choral experiences. A key trait is their forefront of three vocal powerhouses. These singers easily identify with their own developed solo styles yet frequently explore gutsy, three-part harmonies – a combination of contrast and unity that gives this band a distinct expressive mark.
The college-age group has rapidly gained popularity around the UNM campus after performing for multiple campus events and winning the 2009 Make a Wish Foundation Battle of the Bands. Their first EP, “Choices,” is expected to release in April, 2010.

  • Description: What is now Raising Cane began when Gregg Daigle and Don Grieser met at the RockyGrass bluegrass festival in Colorado in 2001. Their musical friendship developed over a year, and when they both found themselves bandless they decided to start playing as a duo. About the time they were thinking about adding a bass player, Rich Sanchez gave Gregg a call looking for a group to play with. He was a great addition, and the first version of Raising Cane as a bluegrass trio was born. When the group decided to record, they thought about adding a fourth member so they could get a full bluegrass band sound live. Aimee Hoyt joined the group in May of 2004 and the group completed their self-titled compact disc this fall. It is scheduled to be released in December 2004.

Route 66 Revelers

  • Contact:Chuck Campbell

  • Description: At the beginning of the 20th Century a new musical direction was emerging in New Orleans, a city which had been the most cosmopolitan city in the American South since the 1820′s. The rich mixture in its population had African and Caribbean roots, and were influenced by a diversity of Creole, Cajun and Southern Baptist music as well as European Opera. Musicians, trained both classically and on the street, were drawing from a number of sources — Ragtime, Spirituals, Work Chants, Blues, Military Marches — and were creating a new, uniquely American art form, Jazz.
The Route 66 Revelers celebrate this music, Traditional Jazz, by playing songs written by Spencer Williams, “Jelly Roll” Morton, Hoagy Carmichael, W. C. Handy, Benny Moten, “Fats” Waller, and made famous by The Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Bix Beiderbecke, Sidney Bechet, and of course Louis Armstrong, as well as many others. We jam regularly at the Rio Grande Jazz Society in Albuquerque. Our basic rule is “If it sounds good, we want to play it.”

Scorpio 67

  • Contact: Johnny Stevenson
  • Web site
  • Description: Scorpio 67 is Johnny Stevenson — a melodic one-man genre-hopping pop band, best described as John Lennon with a Beatbox! Born and raised in England, Johnny saw The Beatles movies on British television at the age of 6, and decided right then and there music was the way to go. He had his first band experience playing the bass in a school reggae band, which forever broadened his expanding teenage palate of musical styles. Many bands came and went after leaving school, some more successful than others. After his last band in England failed to get the record deal they were promised, a disillusioned Johnny moved to the United States with his American girlfriend. After some minor successes as lead vocalist in the Milwaukee bands Rhinocerotic (who even scored an appearance on the Jenny Jones show), and Soul on Stereo, Johnny found the day to day aspect of being in a rock band too rigid of a format for his musical tastes, thus embarking for the first time ever on a solo project named Scorpio 67. This was closely followed by a move to beautiful new surroundings in Santa Fe. Now with no boundaries, the future once again is wide open.

After spending a year of recording over 100 songs, Guenette decided self-release the music under the name of Sleeping Dogs Lie and soon after, the “Joy” cd was released in 1997. Jake Cline of CITY?LINK magazine in Miami declared that “David Geffen and MTV would be wise to pursue the Joy cd”. With no other stable band line-up, Guenette continued to record and released the second 12-song cd “Slightly confusing to a stranger” (2000), which was more lo-fi and experimental than Joy. Splendidzine.com declared the song “Buddy” to be “song of the year.” 2002 saw the release of a more stripped-down, acoustic cd called “Nude.” The song “Burl Ives Died” from Nude is the Sleeping Dogs?Lie top-seller on iTunes. “Head first down the stairs” was a 22-song cd released in 2006 with an energetic lo-fi indie vibe that again captured the attention of critics and fans alike. The “Swirl” cd (2007) was released with 22-songs, the 12 remastered songs from the debut tape and 10 new songs. The sixth cd Trieste was released in April 2009…

  • Web site
  • Description: Vanilla Symphony is a cold shower after accidentally walking in on your sister’s hot friend in her underwear. They’ll cool you down while still getting your body moving, and you certainly won’t be able to get them out of your head. After having formed in the spring of 2005, these guys quickly jumped in the recording sea with both feet and forged a sonic raft that will continue to float toward a promising shore. The band fuses a jazz-influenced modern-pop sound with an acoustic jam-band feel. Robert Hoffman has a long list of esteemed jazz and blues guitarists as both teachers and musical influences. His singer songwriter roots have spilled onto a platform of classical training that is prevalent in each of their songs. His acoustic guitar work sends a breathy emotional package that explodes on stage within this power-trio. The jazz and fusion versed tambour, Joey Santiago, breaks the trap kit mold with his intricate grooves that stimulate listeners’ curiosity. Joey forges grooves with complex syncopations while still managing to keep the heads bobbing. Darryl DelFrate’s melody-driven bass lines create an interesting atmosphere that stands out compared to the root melody playing of other popular bassists. This young band has a fresh sound and a great attitude. The impact of this band will continue to magnify. They are the Albuquerque noise.
