Senate Agrees to Rules Compromise, Udall Reacts

The Senate has agreed to some minor rules changes two days after Sen. Tom Udall’s more ambitious proposal fizzled.

Udall, who crusaded for a year to diminish the power of the filibuster as a way to allow more legislation to be considered, is disappointed his “constitutional option” failed, but wiithout his efforts there probably would have been no action at all. Udall vowed to keep pressing for additional Senate rules reform.

“I think we’re kind of stuck back in another century with some of these rules and we really need to bring it up to date,” he told the Senate today.

You can hear Udall discussing the compromise here.
