Sen. Jeff Bingaman, chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, is scheduled to meet with President Obama Wednesday afternoon to discuss the U.S. energy agenda in the new Congress.
Obama called for a clean energy standard in his State of the Union speech and he has suggested that clean energy technology could be a key engine in getting the U.S. economy out of the ditch.
I interviewed Bingaman last week about his energy agenda in the new Congress. You can read my Sunday column on the subject here. Some trade publications are picking up on Bingaman’s newly-stated support for including nuclear in a clean energy standard. Bingaman has long supported expanded use of nuclear power but only recently came around to including it a clean energy standard.
Bingaman also spoke with radio reporters today about his energy plans for the 112th Congress.
