Smoke alarms alerted the two women of the fire that broke out in a home office on Tuesday morning, according to the Albuquerque Fire Department.
AFD crews responded at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 8) to the house fire at 1009 Santa Ana Ave SE. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames blowing out a front window, according to AFD spokeswoman Melissa Romero.
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes.
A woman inside the home said she heard the smoke alarm and noticed a fire in the office as she exited a bathroom. The woman and her elderly mother then evacuated the home, Romero said in an e-mail.
The older woman was taken to the hospital with chest pain, but is in stable condition.
The home’s office and living room sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. There also was smoke damage throughout the home, according to Romero.
The cause of the fire and its origin are under investigation.
