A man suspected in two previous robberies at the same Rio Rancho bank was taken into custody Tuesday morning (Feb. 8) for allegedly robbing that bank again.
Rio Rancho police were called out at 9:10 a.m. to an armed robbery at the former First Community Bank, which recently changed to U.S. Bank, according to Rio Rancho police spokesman John Francis. The bank is located at 1000 Commercial Drive near Unser and Southern boulevards.
Witnesses described the robber as a Hispanic man with a medium build who was wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt and dark blue pants with a white stripe down the side.
A man matching the physical description of the bank robber was seen a short time later walking toward a nearby Walmart on Unser Boulevard.
A Rio Rancho police officer stopped the man and ordered him to the ground. He was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, Francis said.
The man was taken to the Rio Rancho Police Department for questioning by the FBI. The FBI later took the man into into federal custody.
He is suspected of robbing the same First Community Bank on two prior occasions. He is also possibly linked to other bank robberies in the Albuquerque area, Francis said.
