An Albuquerque man will serve more than eight years in prison for biting a federal law enforcement agent, according to a news release.
Gilbert J. Turrieta, 45, was sentenced to 100 months in prison for an October 2009 incident in which he bit a deputy U.S. Marshal who was arresting him.
Turrieta had a warrant for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender when the Marshals and several other law enforcement agencies arrested him after he barricaded himself in a shed.
When the officers tried taking him out of the shed, Turrieta bit a Marshals deputy in the arm, according to the release.
He was convicted in August and sentenced on Wednesday.
