Man on top wanted list caught with sister
Sometimes police catch suspects by turning to their relatives for help.
Other times police catch suspects by arresting their relatives.
Such was the case in the arrest of top property crimes suspect Jack Anaya, who was found after Albuquerque police arrested his sister on suspicion of burglary.
Anaya, 28, had been one of the top five suspected property crimes offenders in the city, Lt. Harold Medina said.
Police started looking for him in December and finally found him on Wednesday after connecting him to a burglary his sister allegedly committed, Medina said.
“We were just glad we finally got him into custody,” Medina said.
Anaya is suspected of at least nine burglaries in the southeast and southwest parts of the city, Medina said. When authorities started looking for him, they noticed burglaries in those areas started going down, he added.
Police are trying to determine whether Anaya, who has been arrested about 15 times for property crimes in Bernalillo County, was involved in any other burglaries.
Anaya is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center on several bonds totaling $180,000.
