Nibbles: Ned’s on the Rio Grande

The Reuben sandwich ($8.75) yelled to me because the menu referred to it as being voted the best. It’s a tripledecker sandwich with grilled corned beef and turkey plus Swiss cheese and sauerkraut. I got it on light rye. A cup of Thousand Island dressing came in a small cup, which I lathered between bread layers. I also ordered a side of cut green chile ($1.25), because to me it’s required if you’re eating a Reuben in New Mexico. The sandwich was very good. The chile made it even better.

I also ordered a cup of clam chowder ($2.50). It was too thick and lukewarm.

A word about the atmosphere. During my lunch, Ned’s had the feel of a cheery neighborhood restaurantbar. Waitresses gave several patrons hugs and hearty hellos when they entered. After being seated, some patrons talked animatedly with people at adjoining tables.
