Santa Fe businessman Javier Gonzales has been elected to a second term as Democratic Party of New Mexico chairman after a close vote.
Gonzales edged out Albuquerque lawyer Sam Bregman by a vote of 191 to 180. A third candidate, Leticia Montoya, received nine votes.
There were 409 Democratic Central Committee members who were eligible to vote.
Gonzales and Bregman butted heads during the lead up to the election, but showed a unified front after the vote count, with Bregman raising Gonzales’ hand up in victory after the results were announced.
Gonzales thanked Democrats at the Albuquerque convention center where the vote took place, but did not give a victory speech.
