An Albuquerque Public Schools teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave after being arrested Sunday night on suspicion of aggravated DWI, according to a criminal complaint and the school district.
Myrna Arguello, 55, showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests after being pulled over in her Toyota by police in the 1100 block of Fourth NW. She admitted to drinking and said she had been at a fundraiser, according to police documents.
Arguello is a Spanish and creative writing teacher at Harrison Middle School in the South Valley.
Police were alerted to Arguello’s car after a concerned citizen called 911. Police later found the car on Fourth near Interstate 40 being driven inches from the curb and weaving.
A breath test measured Arguello’s blood-alcohol content at or greater than 0.16 percent, which is twice the state’s presumed level of intoxication, according to the complaint.
Arguello was arrested on suspicion of aggravated driving and also charged with careless driving and having no proof of insurance. She was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center and bonded out Monday.
APS placed Arguello on paid administrative leave on Wednesday pending a human resources investigation, according to APS spokesman Rigo Chavez.
Arguello has worked for APS since 2002 and has been at Harrison Middle School for 1 1/2 years, Chavez said.
