Gerald Gonzales, a former New Mexico Bureau of Elections director and chief-of-staff for Sen. Tom Udall when he was in the U.S. House, died of cancer this week and his former boss called him a dedicated servant to the state of New Mexico.
”Gerald Gonzales was thoughtful, intelligent and loved New Mexico, its people and our history,” Udall said. “That is why I hired him as my first chief of staff in the House of Representatives. He had a long career in New Mexico government and Jill and I are saddened to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gerald’s wife Carrie and his entire family at this difficult time.”
Gonzales, a Santa Fe attorney, worked for Udall when Udall was New Mexico attorney general from 1995 to 1998 and he later served as Udall’s chief of staff during his first term in the U.S. House from 1998 to 2000.
