All 11 candidates who gathered enough nominating signatures to compete in the March 6, 2012 Santa Fe municipal election have formally declared their intent to run for office.
The ten City Council hopefuls – spread over Santa Fe’s four districts – and one contender for municipal judge were required to confirm their candidacy with the City Clerk on Tuesday.
In District 1, incumbent City Councilor Patti Bushee will compete against recent college graduate Houston Johansen. District 2’s contest pits retired businessman Bob Sarr against Trust for Public Land attorney Peter Ives and nurse Elizabeth “Dolly” Lujan. In District 3, former city Fire Chief Chris Rivera, businesswoman and social justice activist Marie Campos and Gilbert Martinez will run. In District 4, two former elected officials will face off: retired magistrate judge Bill Dimas and former City Councilor Carol Robertson-Lopez, a retired state employee.
Municipal Judge Ann Yalman is running for re-election unopposed.
Bushee, Sarr, Ives, Rivera and Robertson-Lopez are also participating in a public campaign financing option available for the first time in Santa Fe.
Candidates will draw for ballot positions on Thursday at 5 p.m at City Hall. They have until Dec. 13 to withdraw from the race, should they wish.
