An overwhelming majority of the 2,000 members of a New Mexico small-business association favor making the Environmental Improvement Board an advisory agency only and ending gross receipts tax pyramiding, according to the group’s annual survey.
The state chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business released the results of an annual poll of its members on state and national issues vital to their survival as entrepreneurs, the group said in a news release.
The 2012 New Mexico Member Ballot asked the following five questions and received the accompanying percentages of responses.
- Should the state’s Environmental Improvement Board serve in an advisory capacity and cease being an environmental regulator? About 81 percent said yes, 14 percent said no and 5 percent were undecided.
- Should the Legislature eliminate gross receipts tax pyramiding? About 84 percent answered yes, 10 percent no and 6 percent undecided.
- Should a state-established health insurance exchange decide which insurers can offer policies within the exchange? About 85 percent said no, 7 percent yes and 8 percent undecided.
- Should NFIB support reforms that require labor unions to get annual written permission from each union member prior to using a portion of their dues for political activities? About 88 percent said yes, 4 percent no and 8 percent undecided.
- Do you favor legislation requiring employers in New Mexico to give employees a guaranteed number of days of annual paid sick leave? Answering no were 95 percent, yes 2.5 percent and undecided 2.5 percent.
