Suspect in ABQ Rape, Beating Found in S.C.

Moses Sparks

A Rio Rancho man accused of beating and raping a woman in September was arrested in South Carolina Thursday, according to U.S. Marshals.

Moses Sparks, 25, allegedly severely beat and raped a woman on Sept. 4 in a northwest Albuquerque home, causing her to sustain a fractured finger as well as multiple bruises, contusions and lacerations.

Sparks fled, and a local manhunt began the next day with officials from APD, BCSO, RRPD and Deputy Marshals, a news release from the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Deputy Marshals received information that Sparks had left the state, and a task force sent out leads across the country.

Sparks was tracked through New Jersey, New York and North Carolina before deputies located and arrested him in Mullins, S.C., Thursday, the release said.

Sparks is awaiting extradition back to New Mexico. He was arrested on charges on kidnapping, criminal sexual penetration, and aggravated battery on a household member.
