Santa Fe County Commissioner Liz Stefanics has confirmed she plans to seek a second term representing District 5.
In a press release, Stefanics touted her work promoting government transparency at the county and “personal practice of meeting and working with residents in various communities on their individual needs and issues.”
She said she plans to continue working on county efforts such as the new courthouse, road improvements and rural senior services, as well as look at opportunities for county-led economic development and engery projects in unincorporated areas.
Stefanics, 61, was elected to the County Commission in 2008. She has also served as a state senator and is the former director of the New Mexico Health Policy Commission. She has a PhD from the University of Minnesota.
District 5 covers southern parts of the city of Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Community College area, Rancho Viejo, Eldorado and San Marcos.
The filing date for candidates running for county office is late March. The Democratic primaries, which nearly always determine the eventual seat holder, are in June.
