Arthur “Arturo” Anaya, wanted in the killing of two people earlier this week over owed rent, surrendered Friday afternoon after a stand-off with law enforcement.

Anaya was barricaded in a mobile home where police surrounded him after getting a tip that he may be there.

One or two shots were believed to be fired by the suspect from the home, according to Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Capt. Ken Johnson. No one was injured by the shots.

The incident took place in a rural area located near where Old Pecos Trail dead-ends into Old Agua Fria Road. Other homes in the area were evacuated.

Anaya is wanted in the fatal shootings of 16-year-old Austin Urban and Theresa Vigil, 51, which occurred Monday at the residence Vigil was renting from him southwest of the intersection of St. Francis Drive and Interstate 25.
