ABQ To Start ‘Silver Alert’ Program

The city of Albuquerque is set to begin a Silver Alert program aimed at keeping track of missing patients with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry announced Tuesday that the new program will include GPS tracking wristbands and lighted billboards. He said the lighted billboards around the city will flash the missing person’s picture and information when there is a Silver Alert.

Officials say the city also will give caregivers free computer jump drives to store patients’ information and photos to be used in case patients go missing.

Albuquerque is the latest city to join a growing number of municipalities who are adopting similar alerts.
