After more than three hours of debate, the House of Representatives has voted to overturn the controversial state law that allows foreign nationals to obtain New Mexico driver’s licenses, regardless of whether they are in the country legally.
The measure now advances to the Senate, where a similar proposal ran into fierce opposition last year.
This year’s 45-25 vote on the driver’s license measure, HB 103, is even more decisive than last year’s vote in the House. Last year, House members voted 42-28 in favor of the repeal.
Check back later for more updates, including a full roll call of how lawmakers voted.
