An 11-year-old Texas girl who was allegedly abducted by her mother from Texas on Tuesday was found near Carson National Forest, according to New Mexico State Police.
The girl, Jessica Smith, was “in good spirits and happy to be found,” the State Police statement said.
Officers from several agencies worked together to narrow their search to an area in northern New Mexico near Taos. Officers poured into the area, finding Jessica and her mother, Kimberly Smith, 42, Sunday in a parked car about 9 miles south of Tres Piedras off of U.S. Route 285. The State Police statement said the girl’s mother appeared “lethargic” at the time.
Both the girl and her mother were taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Taos on Sunday evening. Kimberly Smith is expected to be extradited back to Texas to face charges there.
